Paradise Lost
– 2017-19

Devastating forest fires are now a fact of life in Northern California. The ‘Camp’ fire in November 2018 destroyed 18,804 structures, including the town of Paradise, with the loss of 86 lives. The Tubbs fire of October 2017 destroyed 5,643 structures with the loss of 22 lives.

These photos capture the views from the relative safety of the San Francisco Bay Area, where life continued as normal, observing the most incredible sunsets we’d ever seen being born out of the ashes of those who would never see one ever again.
